Louise Lends a Hand

What do enchilada casseroles, thumb caps, and a dance party have in common? They are all ways of making the world a little bit better.

Each session at camp, our girls participate in an all-camp service project we call Louise Lends a Hand. It is a joy to watch our campers have fun while they put into practice the Jewish principal of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world.

Tonight, the girls made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and casseroles for Paul’s Place Outreach in Baltimore www.paulsplaceoutreach.org. Paul’s Place serves about 200 hot lunches each day. Many of their clients work one or more jobs but still find it impossible to feed their families. The food we made tonight is healthy and delicious. It will make a tremendous difference in the lives of people in need. You can check out the casserole recipe in our video and make one for your family when your camper comes home!

The good work didn’t end with casseroles and sandwiches! As you can see in the picture, we also made Thumb Caps – reminders for the people we love to not text and drive. The girls will bring those home and give them to a teen (or adult) along with some information about the dangers of distracted driving.

To end the night, we had a Philanthro-dance-party modeled after the great work of Lulu Cerone, a teenager making a huge difference in the world. She encourages kids to integrate helping with the celebrations they already have in their lives, like birthday parties. You can check her out at www.lemonaidwarriors.com.

Let’s take a lesson from what our campers did tonight – What can you do today or tomorrow to make our world a little better?

Wishing you a meaningful night,

Alicia
