Director’s Blog – August 13
Camp Airy colors are green and white, and they were on prominent display in tandem not once but twice on Friday…
Friday marked the third day of our Olympic events at camp. The Green Team and the White Team began battling on Wednesday, and because of some inclement weather, competition extended into later Friday afternoon. Just like in our first session Olympics, the deciding factor would be the winner of the staff Tug of War. Campers and staff brought the energy and enthusiasm we’ve come to expect from a classic Green vs. White Olympic battle. The Green Team needed to win 5 of the 7 tugs, and after 6 they had 4. It truly was winner-take-all. Green could not hold on, as White emerged victorious over the would-be “Comeback Kids.”
A short while later, we gathered as a whole camp for Shabbat services on the Village Row Basketball Court. The green and white of fierce competition transformed into our Shabbat white shirts – a sea of campers and staff assembled in front of a beautiful and serene green natural backdrop. Competitive cheers gave way to unified ruach, as Songleader Dan and the 2022 CITs led us through blessings, song and dance. As we wrapped up the “Goodnight Song” and made our way back to bunks and cabins, it was a happy-sad feeling.
A wonderful three weeks, including a memorable three Olympic days, was winding to a close. Just one full day left.
